The goal of the FAMOOS Esprit project is to support the evolution of first generation object-oriented software, built with
current analysis and design methods and
ObjectOrientedProgrammingLanguages, to
ObjectOrientedFrameworks -- standard application architectures
and component libraries which support the construction of numerous system variants in specific domains. Methods and
tools will be developed to analyse and detect design problems with respect to flexibility in object-oriented
LegacySystems
and to transform these systems efficiently into frameworks based on flexible architectures.
The project formally ended in August 2000. The final result
of the project is the FAMOOS Reengineering Handbook. This material has been completely revised, extended and rewritten
in the form of a book entitled Object-Oriented Reengineering Patterns, to appear in the Spring of 2002.
